Rep. Kline to discuss Iraq escalation
Town hall meeting set up after six weeks of negotiations

Contact: Greg or Sue Skog 651-454-3850

Congressman John Kline’s office confirmed March 15th that the Representative will hold an open town hall meeting with constituents to discuss, among other issues, the escalation of Iraq hostilities. The move comes after nearly 700 of Rep. Kline’s constituents signed a petition requesting the meeting and after six once-a-week meetings with Kline’s staff.

“There are many families in Minnesota’s Second Congressional District who have sons, daughters, moms and dads serving in Iraq,” said Greg Skog, the spokesman for the group who has been meeting at Rep. Kline’s office. “For the sake of those families, I’m pleased that Representative Kline has finally agreed to an open public discussion on the Iraq hostilities.”

Dear Fellow DFLers,

I am delighted and proud to be your new Rice County DFL Chair. I have enjoyed and learned a lot from working with Shawn Groth, and I am happy that he was recently elected as our Associate Chair. Over the last year, I have spent many long hours with Shawn Groth and Harriet Wishnick in organizing events, the Rice County Fair, many other fun social activities and fundraising. I thank you both greatly for all your time, effort, and hard work! It has been a pleasure working with you! I am happy that Harriet Wishnick and Joel Raaen were elected as co-Affirmative Action Officers and I look forward to continuing to work with you both. I would also like to welcome our new treasurer, Roni Deschamp, who brings a wealth of knowledge in this area. I want to thank our former treasurer, Ed Weck, who was so helpful in this transition. I want to thank our Secretary, Paul Dahl, for all his hard work as Secretary and for his help in other committees. I want to thank the directors on the Executive Committee for all their time and dedication; Ken Beck (CD 2 Associate Chair), Kate Huber, Gene Freeman, Stephanie Henricksen, Donald Kelly, Jonathan Larson, Erika Pearson, and Torfinn Zempel. I also want to thank the directors on the Central Committee for their time and effort; Kathryn Braaten, Georgiana Campbell, Angie Eller, Benet Freund, Donald Kelly, Loretta Meinke, Emily Nesvold, Ron Nuebel, Erika Pearson, Bill Poehlmann, Joel Raaen, Heather Robins, Mike Romanov, Patrick Roohan, Kent Ross, Rich Slomkowski, Terry Rogers, Chuck Von Ruden, Marcia Walters, Nyla Wille, Elden Zempel, and Dan Zielske. I would also like to thank Larry and Liz Malecha, who are so giving of themselves and their time, and they make every social event more fun. Thanks to everyone who helped out at the Rice County Fair in 2006! I look forward to continuing to work with you all and build a stronger local Rice County DFL! I wish the former chair, Erick Sommers, good fortune in his move and endeavors.

I want to thank all the DFL candidates that ran for office – it takes great courage, time, effort, and fortitude to run for a political office, whether you win or not (in Rice County, SD25 & SD26, thanks to Representative Patti Fritz, Representative David Bly, Jeremy Eller, Jessica Peterson, Ted Ludwig, Tim Lies, & Tim Siebsen)!

Also, congratulations to Representative Patti Fritz (26B) and Representative David Bly (25B) on winning their races! They are truly caring and wonderful individuals! I know the people of their districts will be well represented. I, like many, look forward to the continued positive contributions they will make for our community and state. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Therese Barnett, Ph.D., L.P.
Rice County DFL Chair
